From seed to the cup, visit Costa Rica’s famous Doka Coffee Estate
The Doka Coffee Estate tour will teach you everything you need to know about how coffee is grown and made in Costa Rica. With transportation included, head to Poas, Alajuela, Costa Rica into the coffee farms where you will learn, taste and experience the history of coffee in Costa Rica.
Enjoy a traditional Costa Rican breakfast at the Doka Coffee restaurant before you begin the 1.5 hour tour. The tour begins in the seedbed, where local guides will speak about the varieties and growing habits of coffee plants, as well as the local history and geography of coffee production.
Then, you will continue through the processing plant, which is very old and was, in fact, declared to be an Architectural Heritage for Humanity site in 2003. Here you’ll observe the process of de-pulping and fermenting the grains, which prepares them to be peeled and then exported or roasted in the country. Finally, you will visit the roasting plant Café Tres Generaciones and learn about the various roasts that are offered before finishing at the gift shop with the option of tasting the eight different blends made at Doka Estate. Once you have finished the tour, a lunch buffet will be served in the restaurant area.
